A chilled hibiscus drink sweetened with sugar and finished with optional rum and mint.
Yield: 6 servings
Ingredients
hibiscus flowers, dried | 1 | cupcup |
tap water, divided | 5 | cupcup |
lime zest, grated | 1.5 | tspteaspoon |
granulated sugar | 0.5 | cupcup |
rum, optional | 1 | cupcup |
mint sprig, optional | 1 |
Directions
1. Rinse flowers in cold water 2. In a large saucepan, combine 3 cups water, flowers and lime zest 3. Bring to a boil 4. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes 5. Remove from heat; let stand 15 minutes 6. Strain mixture, discarding flowers and zest; transfer to a large bowl 7. Add sugar and remaining water, stirring until sugar is dissolved 8. If desired, stir in rum 9. Refrigerate until cold 10. Add mint sprigs if desired
