Creating Shopping lists

First Log In. Then go to Lists to create a shopping list. Note you can add anything to your shopping list, though you get enhanced grouping functionality with groceries. After creating a list, or clicking on a list, you can add items manually or add ingredients directly from recipes.

Adding recipes to your list

Once you have created a list, go to a recipe you want to try and click the "Add to List" button at the top right. You will then get the options to select which list you want to add the recipe to, as well as which ingredients you want to add to the list, and the multiplier you want to apply. "Multiplier" is applied to the recipe's ingredients, so if you want to make 2 portions of the recipe, you would set the multiplier to 2.

Once you add a recipe to your list, you will see it on your list page, and every ingredient that came from that list will be shown as connected to that recipe. You can then edit the recipe multiplier, remove it and all it's ingredients, remove it and keep it's ingredients, or further edit each individual ingredient yourself as you desire.

Adding items to your list manually

You can add anything you want to your list. Click "Edit" at the top of your list, and add items using the form at the top. When typing ingredients, use "postpositive adjectives", meaning adjectives should go after nouns. For example if you want to add "Gala apples" to your list, type "Apples, Gala" This allows our system to better group your ingredients together (for example, to group "Apples, Gala" and "Apples, Honeycrisp" both as subtypes of "Apples") By using this format it is easier to decide to substitute different ingredients at the store. If you add 3 "Apples, Gala" and 2 "Apples, Honeycrisp" to your list, you will see that you have 5 Apples, 3 Gala, and 2 Honeycrisp in your list. This makes it easy when at the store to know you need 5 apples, and leaves it up to you to decide if you want to get all of them gala or all of them honeycrisp (or maybe a different kind altogether).

Autosuggestions

Autosuggestions are your friend! As you type ingredients, you will see options appear as you type. Click on them to fill in the item. it will also autofill the ingredient's category for you. After clicking an autosuggestion, type in a comma "," and you will see more autosuggestions for adjectives / descriptors show up. Once again, click on them, and type another comma to add more!

Using your shopping list at the store

When you are at the store, set your list to "View", and you can decide to show or hide crossed out items by clicking the button at the top. Simply click or tap an item anywhere to cross it off or uncross it when you get the item at the store. You can also sort your items by name or by category to make it easier to find items that are grouped together at the store.

Renaming Lists

While on a list's page, double click the name of the list to rename it.
